My Travels in South East Asia - Cambodia
I have traveled in South East Asia for several years now, mainly Cambodia, and I find it the most intriguing of places. The people are friendly and welcome photography, they are most happy to pose for pictures. There are many wonderful places to see and explore such as Angkor Wat and the surrounding areas. The beach resorts are quiet and friendly and the accomodation is cheap and cheerful for those on a budget. I stayed in Cambodia last time for 6 weeks in a superior room with air conditioning and its own bathroom for less than $350 US. No so cheap now due to the strength of the dollar against the pound at the moment but it was cheap at the time and still cheaper than hotels in the UK or even the USA. Rooms with just a fan can be had for less than $5 US and are normally clean and reasonably comfortable depending on the time of year.

At the dump, garbage trucks plow in and out. When they lift and tilt their basins, it rains trash. People swarm underneath, bags open, competing for the best bits of refuse—recyclables like plastic and aluminum to resell. The pay is 5,000 rial per hour, about $1.00.
"They work from sunrise to sunset, and sometimes until ten o'clock at night," said Sy Sam, a Cambodian social worker who monitors the dump. "It's most dangerous at night when they can't see what they're grabbing or where they're stepping."
Some children as young as seven-years-old accompany their parents to the dump, becoming scavengers to help support their families.
The PEOPLE IMPROVEMENT ORGANISATION PIO serves 600 children a day through a variety of programs that include, non-formal education and vocational training. Through our programs we provide some of the most vulnerable women and children in Cambodia with hope for the future.
Through education it is our belief that we can improve the lives of the Cambodian people which will lead to taking greater control of ones life and as a result, a life out of poverty.
Help if you can it would be appreciated by the children
